How to make Dalcha using Lucky Masala

Dalcha, a very popular Indian lentil-based curry dish is a mouthwatering combination of meat, lentils and tamarind. It is commonly served at weddings and festivals with rice.

Ingredients for Dalcha Mix

  • Meat 500-750 gm
  • Toor daal 200 gm
  • Turmeric 1 teaspoon
  • Onions 2 big size sliced
  • Ginger-garlic paste 3 tbs
  • Tomatoes 1 big size chopped
  • Bottle-gourd 150 gm peeled and cut in 2-inch pieces
  • Dry coconut powder 30 gm
  • Tamarind 25 gm soaked in water and extract pulp
  • Oil 200 gm
  • Lucky Dalcha Mix 1 packet; keep aside the garam masala pack for rice.
  • Green chilies 4, cut in 2 pieces
  • Coriander leaves half bunch chopped

Note

1 Kg Rice (soaked for 30 minutes), 1 small piece of onion finely chopped, ginger-garlic paste half teaspoon, oil.

How to make Dalcha

Step 1:-

In a pressure cooker mix toor daal with onions, oil, turmeric powder and approximately 4 glasses of water. Cook until daal is tender. Cool and blend to make a purée.

Step 2:-

Heat oil in a pan and fry onions till light pink. Add coconut powder and fry for 2 minutes. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies and fry for few minutes.

Step 3:-

Add tomatoes, meat pieces, salt, and half packet of Lucky Dalcha Mix and fry for few minutes. Add approximately 4-5 glasses of water, cover, and simmer stirring occasionally until the meat is tender.

Step 4:-

Add bottle-gourd and coriander leaves. Cover and cook until tender. Add the daal purée adjusting the thickness and salt. Add the remaining Lucky Dalcha Mix, tamarind pulp and cover and cook on very low heat for half an hour.

Step 5:-

For Rice, heat oil and add whole garam masala and sauté until it begins to crackle. Add onion, fry till golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and 1 tablespoon of water, fry for few seconds. Add water double the quantity of rice and salt. Bring to a boil, add soaked rice and cook until done.
